Clafoutis with Cherries and Blueberries

Clafoutis is a rustic French dessert made from a thick flan-like batter and cherries. Traditional recipe contains pits of cherries which provide another layer of flavor, however, I personally like to remove pits to serve this dish to my child. To me, either works fine.

Today I used cherries and blueberries, but you can use other fruits such as blackberries, raspberries, apples and plums.

Pear Compote

I make fruit compote throughout the year, such as white peaches in summer and pears in winter.

In this recipe, pears are flavored with vanilla only. I like it this way, but you can certainly add white wine to the syrup.

Please select fruits which are ripen but not mushy.

Kids Cooking Class: Bûche de Noël (Yule Log)

Bûche de Noël is a traditional Christmas dessert in France. The word itself translates as "Christmas Log" and is meant to look like a piece of wood ready for fire used in the ancient fire-festival of the winter solstice.

Today my excellent Sous-Chef, 6-year-old daughter, tested this recipe. The traditional Bûche tastes great, and this easy version, too!

Baked Apples

Apples can be Michigan's largest fruit crop and I really enjoy eating them throughout the season.

My baked apples can be a little different, which is baked with caramel. If you serve with Sablés, Tarte Tatin -like dessert is ready.

Very simple and easy to make.
